I am first born in a family of six. My mother is late, and my father is not well. When I received the scholarship, four of my siblings were still going to school, and my father’s monthly income is not sufficient to support us. It has always been my dream to become a doctor and become of use to my sibling and my community, but my poor financial background made it difficult. After my undergraduate program, I wish to specialise as a paediatric surgery and I hope to use my free time to offer free surgery to children with birth defects as most parents cannot afford the huge costs involved.

I believe affordable high quality education is the most important way to significantly stop a chain reaction of many problems such as poverty, illiteracy, diseases, corruption and widespread unemployment. When The African Dream Foundation gave me a scholarship I was was 30 years of age, and I was struggling to complete my studies as I had no income. I had only managed to complete 1.5 years of my degree since I graduated secondary school due to ongoing financial struggles. At the time I received the scholarship I often slept on the campus in one of the classrooms as I could not afford to pay for the transport to go home and return the following day. Since receiving the scholarship, I have now completed my studies and I work as a junior doctor.
